Waltz With Bashir
This 2008 Israeli animated film written and directed by Ari Folman...It explores Folmans real life experiences from the Lebanon war...There are gapes in Folmans memories of the war....So he quests for his lost experiences ....His psyche turns out to be protecting him from the nightmares of the Sabra and Shatila Massacres....Which the Israel Defence forces may have been indirectly responsible for .... The massacres where carried out on the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in West Beirut on the 16th And 18th of Sept. 1982....A disputed number of Palestinians And Lebanese civilians where killed...The animation is really well done and critical to the films mood The cartoons are Folmans memories in dramatic high contrast ....Much more pleasing to the eye then the realities of war....Waltz with Bashir was nominated for the Palmed'Or at Cannes,Nominated for a Oscar best foreign language,And won the Golden Globe in that same category...This is a brilliant film extremely insightful

Punisher War Zone
- Punisher War Zone The best of the 3 unrelated Marvel comic vigilante films ...Ray Stevenson portrays Frank Castle much better then 1989s Dolph Lundgren or 2004s Thomas Jane on looks alone...This ultra violent R rated Punisher could of been John Woos wet dream ....Director Lexi Alexender channels the famous Hong Kong Director in all the gun fights...Thanks to the c.g.i. effects Alexender makes heads turn into pulp by shotguns blasts....Bad guys get blown up in mid air by rocket launchers...Real fun stuff...The introduction of the villain Jigsaw played by Dominic West can't compare to the evil Jigsaw in the saw franchies...Doug Hutchison performs well as Loony Bin Jim he's fucking crazy...Newmans (Wayne Knight) Cameo as Microchip, Punisher's weapons supplier was a nice touch...

The Hurt Locker
The Hurt Locker A tight war drama set in Iraq....The Film Starts with a quote by Chris Hedges "The rush of battle is a potent And often lethal addiction, for war is a drug."Director Kathryn Bigelow tells the story of An explosive ordinance disposal(e.o.d.) unit. Jeremy Renner who I use to see here on the south side when he was starring in the failed N.B.C drama The Unusual...Stars as Sergeant 1st class William James a reckless adrenaline junkie....Anthony Makie is great as the responsible Sergeant Sanborn... All he wants is to get home and hopefully spawn a son...Brain Geraghty is the 3rd member of the unit Specialist Owen Elderidge. He's young scared and green ...Cameos by Ralph Fiennes,Guy Pearce, and David Morse,...The Hurt locker is nominated for 3 golden globes...Best drama,Best director, and best screenplay...War is always filled with fear and extreme tensions...this film is intense....What real life e.o.d units go through...I can't imagine...This was only a movie...

Written & directed by Robert Siegel of The Wrestler fame....Like The Wrestler it felt real... The new Bar
In 2003 we lost The Right Bank...I was the very last bartender there...I made my only Harvey Wall banger in my whole bar tending career that night....So a Quest for the new hangout was on....We tried out Clem's for awhile...Swell bar... Clem the owner was nice enough...Yet he only hired male bartenders...I prefer women...The Blue lounge was cool...They had sexy bartenders and a great happy hour where everything was 1/2 price...The pours were @ least 4 fingers...Alas the Blue lounge closed its doors....I had occasions to drink @ the Brooklyn Ale House because I played Softball for them...I now call it my home and I hold court there Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday...Happy Hourish...
