Sherlock Holmes

Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes paints a different portrait of the detective hero...Holmes played by Robert Downey Jr. is more of a man about adventure and action compared the bookish tweed wearing portrayals of past...The same is true for Dr. Watson played by Jude Law...A much younger and more hands on Dr...Thanks to C.G.I. effects Ritchie recreates Victorian London for his characters to romp around in... The stunning Rachel McAdam's Plays Holmes femme fatal love interest Irene Adler she's as fiery as her red hair...I love the redheads... Mark Strong plays Lord Blackwell... Holmes occult driven adversary... As much as Ritchie must of grown up with Hammer Studios visions of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's hero he gives it the Hollywood gloss over rather then the B studio exploitation...Which is to bad...Sherlock lacks Ritchie's witty dialogue witch is present in his modern day British gangster films... Downey Jr. is in impressive shape for a guy his age... Good thing because his shirt is off often...I'll be looking for the sequel witch should pit Holmes against Dr. Moriarty...That's Elementary

The Lovely Bones

Based on the novel by Alice Sebold The Lovely Bones is the rare miscue from legendary director Peter Jackson... Saoirse Ronan Stars as Susie Salmon (like the fish) a doomed 14 year old heroin who meets her demise in a dug out shelter in a corn field...Susie's stuck in the in-between after her murder which is always surreal but some times a paradise an at other times a nightmare...Jackson uses his famous C.G.I. effects to create this world...A world Dali would be proud of...Marky Mark Walberg plays Susie's grief filled and obsessive father and Rachel Weisz her mother...Susan Sarandon is Susie's Alcoholic grandmother a character I feel never fits into this film...Having not read the book I wonder what her role was in the novel...Stanley Tucci plays Susie's murderer and confirms once again how good of an actor he is...My wife didn't even recognize him...By far not the worst film, but I thought it was a little shallow since I don't believe in ghosts, heaven or hell...I guess we could say this film left me in limbo

Ninja Assassin

Ninja Assassin is a heavy handed C.G.I infected modern chop sockey film directed by James McTeigue...South Korean pop singer Rain portrays Raizo the rogue ninja assassin...The young orphaned Raizo's (very intensely played by Yoo Sungwoong) up bringing in the Ozunu ninja clan is torture because it's fierce martial arts training...You see ninjas are heartless killing machines and as much as Raizo tries to suppress his heart it still beats strong...Raizo eventually betrays the clan and is hunted by them through out the film..When the clan targets a beautiful europol agent Mika( Naomie Harris) for discovering their existence Raizo must protect her...Ninja Assassin is produced by the Wachowski Brothers so it has Matrix styled choreography...The C.G.I .blood splatter is constant...Beheading's, disembowelment's, you name it it gets chopped off or punctured in this film...The storyline is predictable and enough with the happy endings(and I don't mean hand jobs)... We've come a long way from Chuck Norris's The Octagon though...
